Each month, Speak Up highlights a nominated student! This can be any one of our fabulous students from our classes. This month we would like to introduce Emily, a wonderful speech and drama student who takes group classes with us each week!
My name is Emily and I am 9 years old. I love performing and my highlight so far was performing in Pocahontas at the Brisbane Arts Theatre. I enjoy being happy and silly, especially when it makes my friends laugh. I love going to speech and drama each week learning new scripts as well as playing games such as Machine and Post Cards, that allow the freedom to do my own thing. My teacher, Miss Maddie is awesome and brings happiness to the class each week. I was most proud of myself when I was able to perform on assembly for speech and drama with my class.
From Darren (Emily’s dad)-
When Emily decides to take on something it is inspiring to us as parents to see her do it with passion. Emily has been fortunate to travel extensively spending her early years in the USA, as a consequence she has so many great friends both in Brisbane and overseas. This year Emily climbed to the top of Mt Warning during the school holidays, it was fantastic for Emily to put in the effort despite being wary, the accomplishment was evident in her smile at the summit.
This is Emily’s first year in Speak Up and she can’t get enough! When starting speech and drama we wanted Emily to build confidence in herself and to show everyone how wonderful a person she is growing up to be. The best part of Speak Up to us is the inclusiveness of the program and that Emily is always looking forward to the next class.
