Speech and drama classes for kids in kindy to grade six

Speak Up kids learn communication, speech and performance skills. We do this through carefully structured curriculum that steps students through a range of [developmentally appropriate] dramatic literature that engages and delights them. Students are invited to perform on stage twice a year (June & November) to put their dramatic skills into practice.

Explorers

The rehearsal room buzzes with excitement.

Explorers is an introductory program held at our Paddington Studio designed for little ones to try their hand at drama, dance, and music. Dance your way into the room for these fun and collaborative classes, where our smallest speak up kids will sing, dance and laugh with joy!

Speak Up Drama Class

Storytellers

Act I – Young performers walk onto the stage and face the audience. Will they stand still? Probably not and that is developmentally appropriate!

Storytellers is 30 minute speech and drama class for students in prep – grade two. In weekly classes, students develop vocal and verbal skills to become competent communicators. They explore mime and movement as they connect their voice to their imagination. And they explore a range of texts from poetry, rhymes, songs that expand their understanding of the world build their vocabulary. Though 30 minutes might seem short, it’s the perfect length to keep these little ones engaged, interested and excited to come back next week. With just 10-12 kids in each class, teachers take the time to get to know each of our little people and adjust each lesson to suit them.

Inventors

The curtain opens on Act II, as Inventors step into the spotlight with care and charisma

Inventors is a 45 minute speech and drama class for students in grade three – six. In weekly classes, students explore and expand their vocal range while learning to articulate their ideas coherently. Inventors are determined to develop their stage presence and stagecraft skills so they can present and perform with flavour and flair! Inventors take on short plays for the first time, embodying characters and working together on stage without the support of a teacher. Inventors is such a cool place to spend the second part of primary school, surrounded by thoughtful, creative, and dare we say) inventive drama friends. Teachers have such strong connections with these kids who lean on them for dramatic direction, encouragement, and chats about what it means to be a young person these days.

Performers Program

Act III – the spotlight now shines on our Performers, whose confidence and talent are a joy to behold.

Performers are the kids who simply can’t get enough drama. They love learning lines and live for being on stage. Within the Performers program, students are challenged to create even more intricate and detailed productions. Longer lessons enable us to delve deeper into the technical aspects of drama. Commitment to rehearsals and performances is essential to your child’s success in the program.

Performers is an all inclusive program, your monthly membership fee includes cost of participation in both mid year (Imagination Festival) and end of year (Annual Concert) performances.
