The Australian Music Examination Board’s Drama and Performance and Voice and Communication syllabuses are practical examinations that set out educationally appropriate standards for Speech and Drama students. The process of working towards, and completing an exam develops a variety of skills and leads to increased confidence, poise and self-belief. Students who progress through their AMEB exams are able to continue onto Speak Up Studio’s Teacher Training program in grade 11 and 12.

Exams are held at the studio (110 Windsor Rd, Red Hill) on a weekend towards the end of term three. The exact dates will be provided at the start of term three.
Exam times will be confirmed early in term three. Your child is invited to come along to the studio and warm up in our waiting area, and to debrief with a teacher after their exam. They will probably be at the studio for around 45 minutes on exam day. Parents are welcome to drop off and pick up, or wait in the waiting area during the exams.
Your child can wear whatever they like, however it’s good to remember that exams are a formal occasion and so dressing up is encouraged.
Each student who participates in an AMEB exam will receive a button badge to add to their collection. After the exam, each student will receive written feedback from the AMEB examiner, and certificate with their mark – high distinction, distinction, credit or pass. Practise exam students receive written feedback and a certificate.
Your child’s teacher will select an exam syllabus and grade level that is appropriate for your child. See below for details about the content and structure of exams.
This depends on the grade of exam your child is doing. Have a look in your child’s speech and drama folder to review the contents of their exam.

No, they do not. Students who do not want to sit AMEB exams or who are not quite ready have the option of working towards a Practice Exam with Miss Cathy instead. These will be held on the same weekend
Yes. Read about how AMEB exams contribute to QCE and QTAC Rank at the AMEB website.
Participation in an AMEB exam (or the comparative Practice Exam) is included in your child’s Speak Up membership. There are no additional fees to take part.
Your child must be enrolled in a weekly Philosophers or Individual program to do an AMEB exam. You will also need to confirm via email if your child will be taking part.
Because the AMEB is an external organisation, once exams have been booked they cannot be cancelled. Exams can be rescheduled, but this will be the responsibility of the parent and a fee paid directly to the AMEB will apply. If you withdraw your enrolment mid-term after confirming your child’s participation in an AMEB exam, the full fee for the exam will be payable and will be charged to your account.
